Four Characteristics of Entrepreneurs

Dr. Paul Voss, a noted public speaker and professor who combines the study of economics, philosophy and renaissance issues, recently appeared on Bold Ventures Radio. According to Dr. Voss, there are four characteristics that are consistent in entrepreneurs: Wit, enterprise, willingness to take a risk, and talent. “If you fit into these categories,” he said during the interview, “you will be successful as an entrepreneur.”

The categories and Dr. Voss’ explanations are:

1. Wit: Entrepreneurs have to have a certain amount of intelligence. "They have to be able to see things other people don’t see," says Dr. Voss, "and they have to be inventive. They have to discover a new way of delivering material." Intelligence, discovery and invention are critical to being a successful entrepreneur.

2. Enterprise: A successful entrepreneur works hard. Dr. Voss says, "I’ve never met an entrepreneur who wasn’t a hard-working person.”

3. Risk-taking: Entrepreneurs are comfortable with weighing risk. “To be successful, they have to be willing to take risks, not recklessly,” says Dr. Voss “but entrepreneurs must have a risk-taking ability.

4. Talent: Entrepreneurs have to have a high level of competence and capability. “You can go around telling people you’re an entrepreneur,” Dr. Voss says “but if you don’t have the talent to deliver those promises that you made, you’re not going to be a good entrepreneur.”

This country has the legal infrastructure that allows entrepreneurs, if they have the characteristics, to flourish.
